How this worksheet works
From lineal feet to cap packages
Cap products are best estimated from installed lineal coverage per piece. This accounts for exposure and lap directly and avoids assuming every cut shingle has the same yield.
How to use it
- Add measured ridge and hip lengths.
- Enter installed coverage per cap piece and pieces per package for the exact product.
- Set waste, calculate, and round up to whole packages.
Useful for
- Preformed ridge-cap ordering
- Hip-and-ridge shingle takeoffs
- Checking package yield
Assumptions
- One cap product covers both ridges and hips
- Entered piece coverage is installed exposure
- Packages contain a consistent piece count
Limitations
- Starter caps, end caps, ridge vents, and special junctions are separate
- Hand-cut field-shingle yield can differ
- Does not establish ventilation requirements

Questions about this calculator
Should I use physical piece length?
No. Use installed lineal coverage after the required overlap.
Are ridge vents included?
No. The quantity is for cap covering only; size and measure ventilation components separately.
